Drive-Thru for Flu Vaccine!
The Kittitas County Public Health Department (KCPHD) would like to remind everyone about the annual drive-thru flu vaccination clinic on October 9, 2012, in the parking lot of the Grand Meridian Cinema located at 504 East Mountain View Avenue in Ellensburg. Anyone can get a flu shot between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm. Children 18 and under are free and adults are $30.00, check or cash.
KCPHD has been conducting drive-thru flu vaccination clinics since 2003. The department uses the annual drive-thru flu clinic to practice for the possibility of a disease outbreak that would either require vaccinating or distributing medication to large numbers of people in Kittitas County.
Getting vaccinated is the best way to prevent getting the flu and now you can protect yourself without even getting out of your car. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone over the age of 6 months receive a flu shot every year.
It is especially important for certain groups of people to be vaccinated every year including:
Children aged six months up to their sixth birthday, but especially children younger than two years old,
People 65 years of age or older,
People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions,
People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, and
People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from the flu.
You will see signs for the drive-thru flu clinic, directing you to the parking lot of the Grand Meridian Cinema, next to Bi-Mart. A volunteer from Kittitas County Search and Rescue will direct you to a lane, where someone will complete your registration information, take payment if necessary, and direct you to a vaccinator. Medical staff will provide you with the influenza vaccine while you are seated in your parked car. It's that easy and you can drive away with the best flu prevention possible.
If you have any questions about flu vaccination or about the drive-thru flu vaccination clinic, call the Kittitas County Public Health Department at (509) 962-7515.
