"Hibakusha – At the End of the World" (translated from Japanese meaning explosion-affected people) documents the suffering of Iraqi children irradiated by the use of depleted uranium ammunition during the Gulf War, American farmers living near the Hanford plutonium factory in Washington state and survivors of the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.
Though separated by time and space, their common peril delivers a strong message to the contemporary world.
After the movie there will be a discussion featuring Norma M. Field, University of Chicago professor in East Asian Languages and Civilizations and Tom Bailee, one of the farmers in the film.
This event is presented as part of the Museum of Culture and Environment's programming for the exhibit, Particles on the Wall: Art, poetry, and science at the Hanford nuclear site.
