Oyez Roslyn!

Oyez Roslyn! is a series of readings, verbal riffs, and pronouncements. The only constant is  spirited new work and conversation afterward, while the music plays on.

On Saturday, January 12, we welcome:

Brian Saluskin Cle Elum fish passage biologist for the Yakama Nation, Brian will share some sockeye history, biology, and relation, and tell us about their return to our Cle Elum River.

Kathleen Flenniken, Washington State's current Poet Laureate, comes bearing poetry, some in meditation of the Hanford Nuclear Site, some in meditation of our daily dalliance with life.

Kathleen Smith Growing up in Montana as neighbor to the Flathead tribe Kathleen Smith learned daily the importance of the tribal sense of place and clan. Kathleen carries her own tribal tradition in her bones, that of a long line of Irish immigrant story tellers. Settled in Roslyn, she will read some of her own work, and some from the clan of Northwest poets.

Jonathan Evison is surfing waves of acclaim for his third novel, The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving, "a story of total collapse, and ultimately, reconstruction. Before it is over, this calamitous journey will cover five states, resulting in one birth, two arrests, and one instance of cannibalism and including a dust storm, a hail storm, several shit storms, and a six-hundred-mile cat-and-mouse pursuit by a mysterious Buick Skylark." See what he's got up his sleeve these days.
