YA Getting Ready for the 14th Annual Arbor Festival
The Yakima Area Arboretum is gearing up for the 14th Annual Arbor Festival to be held on Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 10am to 3pm on the Arboretum Grounds. This FREE family community event celebrates our state and national Arbor Days, spring, conservation, and natural science. Plus, each year features a new theme with new learning opportunities.
Last year's theme "Going Green!" drew over 3000 people and featured 44 hands-on discovery stations, making it one of the largest Arbor Day celebrations in the Pacific Northwest and we anticipate the same for 2013.
This year's theme, "Nature's 'Tree'rific Art!," is produced in partnership, for the first time ever, with Allied Arts of Yakima Valley, and will showcase the art that Mother Nature presents to us each and every day in so many different ways, from the delicate pink petals of a flowering cherry tree to the scenic vistas of the majestic Cascade Mountain Range. We are surrounded by "Nature's 'Tree'rific Art" we just need to take a look.
Dr. Treerific helps families select a new tree for their yard in honor of Arbor Day.
Families can expect numerous hands-on learning opportunities, crafts, and displays. Plus, over 600 families will have an opportunity to take home their own tree to plant in honor of Arbor Day.
Roughly 40 stations, sponsored by a variety of community organizations, will be on hand to educate the community about Arbor Day and "Nature's 'Tree'rific Art!" The Arbor Festival strives to make environmental science fun for the whole family!
This FREE community event is made possible in part by Yakima County Solid Waste, Briggs Nursery, and Kohl's Cares.
The Arboretum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which relies upon gifts and contributions to maintain its current educational programming and extensive plant collections.
