Student Art Walk

March 23, 2013 Student Art Walk

March is Youth Art Month. The RTown Community Art Walk Committee is organizing a Student Art Walk in downtown Roslyn businesses on Saturday March 23 between 3pm and 7 pm.  Over 15 downtown Roslyn businesses will display art from K-12 students in Upper Kittitas County. Maps will be available in the Northwest Improvement (NWI) Building near Fused Glass.

Inspired by Japanese artist Hokusai and Roslyn woodblock artist Marc Brodine, Cle Elum Roslyn Elementary students have been working on woodblock prints of Mt Stuart. Parent Susie Martin, other parents and Ginger Stodgell of High Country Artists have taught the students the history of woodblocks and led them in doing art work themselves.  Students have made also fused-glass mosaics and sumi paintings. The art will be in six businesses.

High school art from Chris Hamel's students will be on display in Stonehouse 101 and Roslyn rags. Van Gogh inspired art from Andrea Sweet's middle school students will be in the Northwest Improvement  (NWI) Building.  Boy Scout pinewood derby cars can be viewed in Harpers window. Girl Scout art can be viewed in Maggie's Pantry. Preschool art can be viewed in once Upon a Tyke.

Interactive art stations will be in four downtown locations including Pie in the Sky and Stonehouse 101.

Jazz and marimba bands will perform in the Roslyn Downtown Association's Community space on the corner of Wahington St and Highway 903.  The schedule is: High School Jazz at 3:30, Middle School jazz at 4:30 and Marimba bands at 5:00.

The Student Art Walk is a project of RTown Community (rtowncommuniity.org) and supported by the Roslyn Cle Elum School District, High Country Artists and the Cle Elum Roslyn Parent advisory Committee and the Roslyn Downtown Association.
