Training helps greenhouse gas emitters prepare for reporting

OLYMPIA In September, workshops held throughout Washington will help the state's largest sources of climate-changing greenhouse gas emissions get ready to report their releases by Oct. 31, 2013.
This is the first time emitters must report their greenhouse gas emissions. In 2008, the Washington Legislature directed the Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) to develop a rule requiring certain large facilities and transportation fuel suppliers to track and report their greenhouse gas emissions. In 2010, the Legislature updated the law to make Washington's reporting program more consistent with federal greenhouse gas reporting rules. This law is an important tool for understanding the state's greenhouse gas emissions profile.
The state's rule applies to roughly 300 owners or operators of:
Facilities that emit at least 10,000 metric tons of greenhouse gases per year in Washington.
Suppliers of liquid motor vehicle fuel, special fuel, or aircraft fuel that supply products equivalent to at least 10,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year in Washington.
Ecology is offering three in-person training sessions; one session includes a webinar option. You can find more information about the webinar and greenhouse gas emissions reporting training on Ecology's website or by calling 360-407-6811.
The training sessions will cover emissions released in 2012. Morning trainings will focus on facility reporting and afternoon trainings will be for transportation fuel suppliers. You do not need to attend both parts if you are not both a facility reporter and a supplier reporter.
