Presentation Scheduled During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, local surgeon Kenneth Harris will give a short presentation about what to expect on a journey with breast cancer. The presentation, which will be held at noon on October 21 at KVH Hospital, is free and open to the public.
Breast cancer is the most common kind of cancer in Washington State, and about 30 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in Kittitas County. At some time in their lives, about one in eight women will be affected by breast cancer.
Dr. Harris' presentation will focus on the entire breast cancer journey. He will discuss recommendations for breast cancer screening, how breast cancer is diagnosed, and multiple treatment options including surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and biologic drugs.
"The national attention that has been brought to breast cancer detection and treatment over the past several years is encouraging," according to Dr. Harris. "It is important for all women to learn as much as they can about breast cancer."
Dr. Harris has practiced general surgery in Ellensburg since 1982. He specializes in breast biopsy and surgery, performing approximately 20 breast procedures each year.
The presentation will be held in the upstairs conference rooms at KVH Hospital. For more information, contact Karen Schock at (509) 962-7322.
