Creepy Crawlies of Cowiche Canyon: What Reptiles Can Teach Us about Beauty and Fear
Presenter: Dr. Daniel Beck
February 12, 2014 • 7:00pm • G215
Reptiles and amphibians are an important part of our shrub-steppe ecosystem. In this lecture Dr. Daniel Beck will discuss some of the "creepy crawly critters" of this environment, especially the rattlesnakes. He will present an inquiry into how we perceive venomous reptiles and other unfamiliar things and help us to consider how we might appreciate what we fear.
Dr. Beck teaches biology at Central Washington University. He spent his childhood in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains of Utah exploring nature and watching animals. He continues his childhood fascination with reptiles as he studies them here in Washington and in the southwestern US and Mexico. In addition, he authored a book about Gila Monsters and Beaded Lizards.
