Introduction and discussion by Professor Bobby Cummings, Director of Africana Black Studies, and Keith Champagne, Associate Dean of Student Success
Brooks Library in collaboration with Africana and Black Studies, Museum of Culture and Environment, and Student Success is celebrating Black History Month with a three part film and discussion series entitled Created Equal Film Series: America's Civil Rights Struggle.
This documentary explores a racially charged criminal trial and a heart-rending love story set during the turbulent Civil Rights era. This is a story of an interracial couple and their struggle for dignity during a time of historic anti-miscegenation sentiments in the U.S. They are paired with two young and ambitious lawyers who are driven to pave the way for Civil Rights and social justice through an historic Supreme Court ruling, changing the country's story forever.
"Created Equal Film Series: America's Civil Rights Struggle" is made possible through a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, as part of its Bridging Cultures initiative, in partnership with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.
